The construction office managing the new site of the country's leading broadcaster China Central Television has been blacklisted along with 51 other institutions on the country's annual safety review following its tower blaze in downtown Beijing last year, People.com.cn reported Monday.
The Chinese State Administration of Work Safety released Sunday its 2009 institution blacklist of 67 major production safety disasters which claimed 1,128 lives, 845 down from that of 2008.
In February 2009, CCTV's luxurious 44-story tower, in its final stage of construction, was engulfed in flames after an illegal fireworks display arranged by the lucrative broadcaster. One fireman died in the blaze. The seared landmark has since become a national running joke of backfired corruption.
