Mel Gibson became a father for the eighth time on Friday when his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, gave birth to a baby girl at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles.

Gibson confirmed that he and Grigorieva were expecting their first child together during an appearance on Jay Leno's "The Tonight Show" in May.

Gibson separated from his wife in August 2006, less than a month after his infamous drunk-driving arrest in Malibu.

Before the baby girl's birth. Gibson already had seven kids with his ex-wife -- six sons and one daughter.

"I guess I'm Octo-Mel，" Gibson joked in a show.

Since 2006, the "Braveheart" star Gibson has kept a low profile, appearing in a handful of cameo roles in television and films. His last film as a director was the 2006 Mayan period epic "Apocalypto." He is currently working on "The Beaver" alongside Jodie Foster.
