With their 1-0 victory over Nova Iguacu on Saturday, America-RJ mathematically guaranteed their spot in the first division of the Rio de Janeiro state tournament.

With two rounds remaining in the second division of the state tournament, the team has already begun to celebrate.

The soccer legend and scorer of more than 1,000 goals in his career, Romario announced that he will be on hand and ready to play in his first game for the team in their upcoming match against Artsul on November 25.

Apart from his role as a striker for America-RJ, Romario is currently one of the club's managers. After Romario's retirement in 2008, he decided to return to the sport in order to comply with his late father's wish of seeing his son play for his favorite team.

With 35 points in the state tournament, America-RJ have established their return to the elite of Rio de Janeiro state soccer. Another team that is close to qualifying for the first division is Olaria with 34 points.

America-RJ's rise to the first division of the Rio de Janeiro state championship was Romario's main objective as a team manager.

The player/manager is also fulfilling his promise of playing for the team. He had previously mentioned that he would play in the last game of the season. However, with Saturday's accomplishment, Romario decided to get back to the field a little earlier than expected.
