The African Boxing Union (ABU) has once again postponed Zambian boxer Joseph Chingangu's defense fight of the ABU heavyweight belt, leaving his Nigerian opponent seething with rage, the Post of Zambia reported on Saturday.
The Zambian pugilist was scheduled to defend his belt against Nigerian Adewale Abbe, who arrived in the country on Wednesday, but the fight had been postponed following the failure the boxer's stable to put logistics in place.
He has since been given one month to put logistics in place.
ABU secretary general Celestino Mindra said at a press briefing in Lusaka on Friday that DS Boxing Stables, Chingangu's stable, failed to meet major requirements before staging the fight.
Among the requirements, Chingangu's stable failed to raise purse money for the boxers and the boxer failed to deliver his medical report to ABU on time while his contract was incomplete.
"We have given him up one month to stage the fight," Mindra wasquoted as saying by the paper.
He further said the ABU could not take any action against Chingangu for failing to stage the fight because the two camps would agree on the way forward.
But, the Nigerian boxer's manager Aboderin Remi said the cancellation of the fight was an ambush to his camp.
"It's an ambush. It's very disappointing," Remi was quoted as saying.
Chingangu has not defended the belt since 2008 when he grabbed it.
