At 12 o’clock at midnight on December 31 every year, the old Longhua Temple reverberates with strains of the bell. People strike the Longhua Bell (cast in 894 A.D.) to see off the old and greet the new praying for blessings. As a tourist attraction, striking the Longhua Bell started in 1991.
