During the past 40 years of China’s reform and opening-up, the company has devoted itself to the localized production and R&D of automobiles in China. In 1997, GM established a joint venture with SAIC Group in Pudong New Area called SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM) and Pan-Asia TechnicalAutomotive Center (PATAC). In 2018, GM officially launched the ShanghaiBattery Assembly Plant, the second of its kind set up by GM in the worldto meet the growing demand for new energy vehicles. The factory uses the world’s leading manufacturing processes to achieve high automation.
