The signing of “non-oxidativeconversion of methane into olefins, aromatics and hydrogen”at the SABIC Shanghai technology center on March 23, 2016 is pioneering and exemplary. The signing project is a new conversion route of natural gas developed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, a research institute under the Chinese Academy of Science. Compared with the traditional method, this approach has completely abandoned the high energy-consuming preparation process of syngas, greatly shortening the process route. During the reaction process, the emission of carbon dioxide can be zero and the utilization efficiency of carbon atom reaches 100percent. Together with PetroChina and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, the company has developed catalysts and processes for the methane into olefins, aromatics and hydrogen. With the industrialization of the process, this new technology will provide a more efficient way for the use of natural gas, and bring considerable value to the petrochemical industry in China and even the world. This is also a new model that foreign enterprises try to integrate production, learning and research by working with top scientific research institutes and large central enterprises in China.

While expanding business and being engaged in innovation, SABIC also actively fulfills its corporate social responsibility and vigorously disseminates the idea of sustainable development. In 2014, the company launched a CSR project in Shanghai called “lights of our future” to encourage young people to keep concerning for sustainable development and encouragetheir innovative thinking on environmental protection.
