On the "local" and "foreign" side of China

From:社科报2021-7-19 14:00

Chen Jianhong wrote in the 4th issue of Journal of Wuhan University (PHILOSOPHY AND SOCIAL SCIENCES EDITION) for 2021 that in historical philosophy, Hegel believes that Asian countries regard the ocean as the interruption and boundary of land, so they lack marine spirit and are land countries belonging to "land"; Asian countries, including China, seem to be "local" and lack "foreign" spirit. Hegel's Eurocentrism expresses the meaning that marine civilization is superior to land civilization. From the perspective of Chinese ideological circles, the world order and local China also emphasize the image of a land China. The external cause is the influence of missionaries on the mainstream thinkers in Europe, while the internal cause lies in the interpretation of Chinese classics. In terms of history and geography, China is not only a "land" China based on the earth, but also an oceanic and "foreign" China opening to the outside world.
