Miao Ying and Guo Xiaoguang pointed out in an article of Literary Contention (5th issue, 2021) that the development of commodity economy in Ming Dynasty had a significant impact on social culture and artistic life, breaking the boundaries of traditional Chinese social classes and making intellectuals closer to the masses and the art market. Artists such as Tang Yin, Zhu Zhishan and Qiu Ying, as forerunners of that time, taking inspiration from predecessors and other art categories, led an artistic trend that constantly challenged the aesthetic values standard under the traditional ideological system. In the late Ming Dynasty, a strong demotic style trend took shape in the field of literati painting, implying penetration of the demotic style to the cultured taste and the cultured taste’s catering to the demotic style. Under the influence of pragmatism which was advocated in the literature & art field in Ming Dynasty, the painting ideology was cutting-edge and profound, with the combination of cultured and popular tastes that kept pace with the spirit of the time, and at last a new aesthetic orientation came into being – for the enjoyment of both the cultured people and the common people.
