Wu Yuefei points out in the first issue of Academic Monthly in 2022 that since the beginning of the 20th century, the concept of "human needs" has rapidly become a hot topic in western social sciences and triggered continued interdisciplinary responses, while the mainstream sociology is silent on this issue. This suggests that currently sociology is losing the pattern of thinking on some basic concepts and theories in responding to normative issues. For sociology which serves humans and focuses on human needs, it is urgent to rethink the contemporary value of normative tradition and rebuild the "needs-based" normative sociological tradition. Therefore, we should push ahead with "goodness" and "human progress"-purposed sociology, strengthen the combination of fact orientation and norm orientation to respond to the issue of "good society", and strive to realize the coordination between sociological research and political action.
