The rise of single economy is an inevitable result of modernization and population changes, Wu Fan indicated in the second issue 2022 of the Journal of Xinjiang Normal University (Edition of Philosophy and Social Sciences). The rapidly growing number of single people, most of whom are young people, has spurred new consumption patterns. These consumers have obvious independence, autonomy and personalities with high consumption, enough time budget and high dependence on market; single economy is characterized by more market segments, miniaturized products, specialized service, fast updated consumer goods and large elasticity of associated consumption. An accurate grasp of characteristics and development of single economy requires not only clarification of the basic connotation of single economy and its consumer groups, understanding of the demographic driver and social/cultural foundations for the rise of single economy, but also combination with Chinese situation and social changes. Seen from the trend of modernization and population changes, China's single economy has great development potential.
