Cao Shunqing and Zhai Lu wrote an article in the second issue of Social Science Research (2022). According to the article, after a review of the development and current status of Chinese literature, it is found that there are imperfections in three aspects, on the basis of affirming the achievements of previous studies: the first is a lack of "China’s spirit" in the history of literature, i.e. the previous history of literature is constructed with the Western discourse as metadiscourse, resulting in a loss of the inherent discourse in literature history; the second is a lack of horizontal development in the history of literature, i.e. the horizontal development of literature is mainly reflected in the cross-ethnicity, cross-language and transnational literary influence and relations, which has been almost ignored by the history of Chinese literature up to now; the third is a lack of a multi-ethnic perspective in the history of literature, i.e. our literary history is dominated by the Han ethnicity literature without an awareness that the history of Chinese literature should be multi-ethnic.
