In the Journal of Tsinghua University (Philosophy and Social Sciences), No. 2, 2022, Ma Deyong proposed that the authoritarian personality, as a personality trait and group cultural feature, exists to varying degrees in all human societies. From the perspective of social evolution, the threat-security perception of human beings in the long-term evolutionary process determines each individual’s position between authoritarianism and libertarianism, and also determines the level of the authoritarian culture of a society; the level of authoritarianism and libertarianism has an influence on the process of social development and civilization. The threat-security perception is also a trigger to stimulate authoritarian personality from the potential psychological motivation to actual behavior. As a psychological trait of human beings having evolved for a long time, the authoritarian personality is stable in nature, but its external expression is restricted by policies and culture, and policies and culture affect each other.
