On August 15, the 4th Journal of Foreign Languages High-end Forum on Translation Studies was held online. The forum, themed on “Hot topics on current translation studies and theories exploration” was hosted by the editing department of the Journal of Foreign Languages.
The experts present at the forum held discussions over such topics as conversational ability in foreign languages, translation theories building, applied translation studies. Professor Wang Ning with Shanghai Jiaotong University believed that scientification and digitalization are the key words in this era. The arrival of “image reading era” has combined languages, which rely on words, and images, which reply on pictures and indicated the new growth driver for translation studies.
Professor Wu Yun with Tongji University said that developing multi-mode narrative of translation that integrates words, pictures and audio-visual contents should be, by nature, a part of the efforts to “create new concepts, definitions and expressions to bridge China and the world”.
