The first archaeological survey report, Lishui Baoding Kiln Site, was recently released by Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Fudan University. As an important local type of Longquan kiln, the findings of Baoding kiln site will be an important supplement to the study of Longquan kiln.
The report provides a strong proof for the role of Baoding kiln in the Maritime Silk Road by elaborating on the state of preservation, dating the kiln site, analyzing the relationship between Baoding kiln and the core area of Longquan kiln, and setting out the protection and subsequent utilization. It also assesses the value of the kiln site at the historical, scientific and artistic levels, and offers suggestions on preservation and planning.
Shen Yueming, Professor of Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Fudan University, remarks that Lishui Baoding kiln is part of Longquan kiln site despite it is located on the periphery of the core area of Longquan kiln;“it is necessary to carry out in-depth explorations of the kiln industry, and it will not only provide solid evidence for the historical development and evolution of local traditional ceramic handicraft industry, but also become an important supplement to the study of Longquan kiln”.
