On March 12, more than 200 experts and scholars from around the world attended the international symposium on "Misinformation and Global Communication" held by Shanghai International Studies University, both online and offline. At the symposium, there was also a release ceremony for Online Media and Global Communication, an international open English academic journal, sponsored by Shanghai International Studies University.
The experts and scholars had a thorough discussion on a number of issues in different regions of the world in relation to misinformation in the era of digital media, such as the producers, disseminators, media, communication process, fact verification, communication influence, theoretical construction and comparative research. According to them, the spread of misinformation among hot news underlines the importance of relevant research, and the governance of misinformation has become a common challenge across the world. Scholars from all over the world should conduct targeted local research and carry out international exchanges, share governance experience of their respective countries and regions, and build an effective interaction mechanism for academic research and practice, based on the spread of misinformation that has emerged one after another in different regions.
