The Social Sciences Academic Press recently published the Report on Women’s Development in China over the Past Century (1921-2021). The report was compiled by the Chinese women’s development research group under China Women's University & ACWF Executive Leadership Academy.
The report systematically reviews the historical progress of women's development and gender equality as well as the remarkable achievements made in China over the past century, analyzes the important opportunities and challenges in the future, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for promoting gender equality and women's all-round development to a new level. According to the report, Chinese women's family status has undergone historic changes in the following six aspects: first, women have gained equal autonomy with men in marriage; second, women have gained independent rights of name; third, women enjoy equal rights with men to own and inherit family property; fourth, the status of women in their family has been greatly improved; fifth, importance has been attached to the unique role of women in the construction of family civilization; sixth, the policy environment for women to balance family and work has been constantly improved.
