The China-Pacific Island Countries High-level Dialogue on Climate Action was held online on April 28. The theme of the dialogue is "Green Development: China and the Pacific Island Countries will Jointly Respond to Climate Change".
Cao Junji, researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a presentation in which he indicated that climate change had become the most cutting-edge issue for the time being; climate change is not only a problem of rising temperatures, but also having systemic effects on the globe. Zhou Botao, professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, pointed out that global warming had led to sea level rise and frequent extreme weather events such as extreme temperatures, heavy rainfall and drought, and human activities were an important cause of the current global climate change. Shen Lei, researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, proposed ways to improve the ability of Pacific island countries to respond to climate change, and suggested that targeted assistance should be provided to island countries based on their actual needs.
