On June 24, the National Institute of Social Development, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Academic Press jointly released the Blue Book of Voluntary Services: Report on the Development of Voluntary Services in China (2021-2022).
The total number of volunteers in China had reached 217 million as of Oct 30, 2021, with an average of 1,544 people per 10,000 people registering as volunteers, according to the report. Enterprises are becoming an important part of voluntary services. The report indicates that the voluntary services as civilized practice in the new era are characterized by extensive participation, large coverage and in-depth service content, but they are still restricted by factors such as economic level and resource allocation. The report stresses the need to improve overall deployment from the following five aspects: combining goal orientation with problem orientation, focusing on rural areas, mobilizing resources and forces, improving policy support and establishing systems and mechanisms, so as to deepen and make solid progress in voluntary services for civilized practice in the new era.
