The first "Summit Forum on Chinese Film Theory Development"& the academic forum "Chinese Film Theory Explorations and Schools Construction"(Humanities Forum of Peking University) were held online from July 9 to 10. It was co-sponsored by School of Arts of Peking University, China Film Critics Association, Zhong Dianfei Film Critics Development Fund of China Film Foundation, Institute of Film, Television and Theatre of Peking University, and Division of Humanities of Peking University.
Attendees remarked that films of China had made great progress in recent years. In the long run, China needs film theory and criticism to move forward to a strong country in films from a big one. With the technological revolution and media reform, many film propositions need to be reflected, and the connotation and categories of film aesthetics have undergone great changes. Scholars advocate technological innovation in film research methodologies, and affirm new methodologies such as digital humanities research, neurocinematics research and cinemetrics research that are based on the Internet, man-machine technology and digital computing technology. These are the methodology innovation of film theoretical research, representing the academic character of Chinese film scholars who are keeping pace with the times.
