The first World Design Cities Conference (WDCC), hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, kicked off in Shanghai on September 15.
With the theme that "design knows no boundaries and pursues cross-border integration", the conference aims to create a world-class event for cooperation and exchange in the field of design. The overall structure of the conference is "1+2+2+X", i.e. 1 opening ceremony, 2 pinnacle forums (including the pinnacle forum of worldwide 100 designers, and the UNESCO Design Cities Summit), 2 exhibitions (including the main exhibition and the Paris exhibition), and more than 50 summit forums and design activities. With the French pavilion and the Italian pavilion, the main exhibition focuses on “designing innovative cities” from five dimensions: design empowers industrial development; design fuels vitality of urban space; design optimizes public services; design enlightens quality of life; and design helps to jointly build city brands.
At the opening ceremony, a discussion on creative design was conducted among Lou Yongqi, vice president of Tongji University, Dava Newman, director of the MIT Media Lab, and Aldo Cibic, founder of Memphis of Italy.
