Hosted by Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, an academic seminar on "international Confucianism exchange and the new model of human civilization" was held in Jinan on September 15.
Yuan Hongying, Party secretary and president of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, made a speech at the seminar, indicating that over the past 100 years, the Party has led the Chinese people in opening a distinctive Chinese path to modernization and "created a new model for human civilization." Gan Chunsong, professor of Philosophy at Peking University, pointed out that the current academic research on Confucianism focused on philology and academic history; Confucianism should contribute more to the new model of human civilization, and scholars of Confucianism must more actively be involved in new questions of contemporary life and practice. Lv Wenming, professor of Qilu Cultural Research Institute of Shandong Normal University, remarked from the perspective of civilization comparison that Western scholars' explanation of the theory of "Axial Age" did not conform to the reality of Chinese history, resulting in partial understanding of the law of civilization development.
