The 21stShanghai Social Sciences Week, hosted by Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, kicked off in the Shanghai Social Sciences Hall on October 15. Themed "making contributions in the new era and writing new chapters", the event will showcase extraordinary achievements of the past ten years by organizing and carrying out city-wide activities of science popularization to forge ahead in the new era and welcome the Party’s 20thNational Congress.
In relation to strengthening the popularization of social sciences, Xu Jiong, deputy head of Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, stressed that it is necessary to prioritize key areas and carry out the publicity and dissemination of the Party's innovative theories; inherit and continue the endeavors of Shanghai made in the past ten years and give full play to unique advantages of the theoretical and social science circles in promoting the popularization of the Party's innovative theories; continue to innovate and develop social science knowledge to benefit the masses.
In addition, at a theme forum, speeches were delivered separately by Wang Zhan, Chairman of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, Yu Lizhong, first president of New York University Shanghai, and Lu Ming, distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
