The 2022 World Cities Day Global Observance and the 2ndSDG Cities Global Conference, under the theme of “act local to go global”, kicked off at the Shanghai North Bund on October 31, the World Cities Day. After eight years, the global event of World Cities Day has returned to its birthplace, Shanghai.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory letter to the 2022 World Cities Day Global Observance and the 2ndSDG Cities Global Conference.
Chen Jining, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC, read the congratulatory letter and delivered a speech. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, also sent a letter of congratulation. Wu Qing, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, and Xu Haoliang, UN Assistant Secretary-General, made speeches separately. Maimunah Sharif, under-secretary-general and executive director of UN-Habitat, released the 2022 Shanghai Booklet.At the same time, the videos of Global SDG Cities Award (Shanghai Award) and the Shanghai Index were shown at the opening ceremony.
