A freighter belonging to Indonesian firm PT Meranti Maritime that failed to pay its crew has been sold for 16.89 million yuan (US$2.5 million) in China’s first online judicial sale of an overseas ship, Shanghai Maritime Court said yesterday.

The court started the auction on Taobao.com at 3pm. After 63 rounds of bidding over 24 hours, the ship was sold to a Hong Kong buyer.
