Commitment to Industry 4.0 and the Chinese Dream

On January 10, 2012, Zeiss’s first corporate innovation and R&D center out of Germany was formally launched in Waigaoqiao, committed to working with Chinese research institutes to develop products that better meet the needs of the Chinese market. According to Mr. Foerst, the center will provide world-leading myopia solutions for patients in China. Also,“As it is pretty clear that China is leading the way in electric vehicles, we are very active in the industrial side and quality control for automotives, so we see here a big opportunity for us to work together with our Chinese customers to be able to develop new solutions for electric vehicles.”

As a pioneer in research and quality technology, Zeiss enjoys an esteemed reputation in the field of industrial measurement. Over recent years, with the development of Sino-German Industrial 4.0 cooperation - an umbrella term for current trends towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies - ZEISS China has taken the mission of promoting cooperation on innovation and industrial technology between the two countries. For instance, by joining hands with universities and research institutes, ZEISS China has been helping foster an innovative environment between these brain centers. In Shanghai, it has worked with Tongji University to build the Industrial 4.0 Laboratory in China-Germany Engineering Institute (CDHAW), the Sino-German Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC) and the Competence Center of Tongji University & ZEISS. Aside from providing top-notch measurement instruments and other hardware support to Tongji University, it will introduce intelligent measurement solutions into the university to cultivate high caliber engineering talent for the industry and promote Industry 4.0’s application in engineering. Therefore, as Mr. Foerst summarized,“Basically we are supporting not only the industry but also the research institutions to bring Industry 4.0 to the next level.”
