BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Li Zhanshu held talks with Amal Al Qubaisi, speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in Beijing on Monday.

Li, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that China is willing to make joint efforts with the UAE to actively implement consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, improve mutual political support, promote Belt and Road construction, expand people-to-people exchanges and promote friendship between the two countries to benefit their two peoples.

Li said that the first China International Import Expo, which opened on Monday in Shanghai, demonstrates China's determination to deepen reforms and push for a new round of high-level opening-up.

"China is willing to work with all countries in the world, including the UAE, to promote economic globalization in a more open, inclusive, universally beneficial, balanced and win-win direction," Li said.

The two sides should strengthen friendly exchanges at all levels, boost exchanges in fields including legislation and supervision, and give full play to legislature to provide legal protection for cooperation between the two countries, he said, adding that the two sides should carry forward traditional friendship, promote cooperation in areas including culture, tourism and education, and consolidate the social foundation of their bilateral ties.

Al Qubaisi said China has become a major force in safeguarding peace and stability in the world, and promoting the development of the global economy.

"The UAE regards its relationship with China as a diplomatic priority and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in areas including politics, economy, culture and anti-terrorism," she said, adding that the Federal National Council of the UAE stands ready to enhance communication and cooperation with the NPC, so as to promote friendly exchange between the two peoples and enrich the connotation of UAE-China relations.

Before the meeting, Li and Al Qubaisi jointly signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the NPC and the Federal National Council of the UAE.
