Air transport corridor props up Silk Road in the sky
From:Belt and Road Portal  |  2017-10-10 16:11

The Air Traffic Management Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China actively promotes the construction of an air transport corridor connecting east China, central China and west China to support the Belt and Road Initiative.

The corridor's route connects the prosperous Yangtze River Delta and the vast inland area of China, as well as the countries along the Belt and Road routes to the west of China. The corridor consists of 69 airports in 12 provincial regions.

The adjustment of the airspace regulations in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Qinghai region has the most impact, benefitting 21 air routes. Also, the region has eight new international routes.

The construction of the two-way corridor can effectively lower the operation risks caused by planes flying in opposite directions, or crossing each other's air routes.

During the eight-day National Day Holiday at the beginning of October, the air transport corridor played an important role. The flight capacity between Shanghai and Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu Province, has increased by 17percent.

Northwest China is expected to assume a greater role in connecting east China and countries along the Belt and Road routes.
