The second BRICS Legal Forum kicked off on Wednesday at East China University of Political Science and Law and will run through Friday. The event is meant to promote exchange and cooperation on various legal issues facing states in the BRICS bloc.

A Shanghai center for settling BRICS disputes was inaugurated on the forum as the first of its kind in BRICS countries.

“A dispute solution center is essential as more disputes are coming up with deepened and expanded economical and financial exchanges among us,” said Liu Xiaohong, vice president of East China University of Political Science and Law.

“It is also important to set it in Shanghai as the headquarter of the New Development Bank was set up by the BRICS in the city,” she added, “And we also plan to set up more solution centers in the other four countries in the future for better cooperation in settling disputes.”

A new legal talent training center was also established at the school with a two-week training launched for 15 law professors and judges from Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa to learn Chinese laws and legal systems.

More trainings about other countries will be provided later, said the school.

An Institute of BRICS Legal Studies was also set up in the university to collaborate with schools in the other four members to educate postgraduate students with full knowledge of laws and legal systems of all BRICS countries in the future.
