Two foreign and two local passengers helped an elderly Chinese woman who suddenly fainted at Zhongshan Park metro station Thursday noon, the city's metro operator said.

The two foreign passengers, one from India and one from Pakistan, immediately checked the woman's situation and comforted her husband when they heard him calling for help at 12:25pm in the passage to transfer between Line 2 and Line 3.

"Don't be afraid. I'm a doctor," one of the foreign passengers comforted the elderly couple in fluent Chinese.

The two helped laid the woman flat on the ground, checked her pulse and kept talking to her trying to wake her up, according to other passengers.

The Metro station called ambulance once they were informed of the situation.

An officer with the station, Hu Jianhua, said that another two Shanghai passengers also gave their helping hands to the elderly couple. A female passenger gave the elderly woman three pills for heart attack, when she learnt that the woman had heart disease and cervical spondylosis.

The woman began to feel better after taking the medicine.

The ambulance arrived about 15 minutes later. The Good Samaritans accompanied the couple until they got on the ambulance vehicle.

The husband later told the Metro operator that her wife brought the medicine with her, but he couldn't find it.
