SHANGHAI authorities have this year busted 17 pyramid schemes and issued fines totaling 15 million (US$2.4 million) yuan, the commerce bureau said yesterday.

　　The organizer of one of the schemes, which had more than 7,800 members nationwide, was given a suspended prison sentence.
