BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday called for firm Party rule, in order to deepen reform and promote the rule of law.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made his remarks at a meeting attended by officials from CPC organization departments nationwide.

"Strict selection of CPC cadres is key to running the Party," said Liu.

Supervision over Party officials should be strengthened and punishment should be imposed on those who engage in illegal or immoral behavior, he went on.

Liu said the CPC should always root out undesirable work practices, remain down to earth, adhere to its regulations, and reflect on the corruption cases of some of its former leading officials, such as Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai and Xu Caihou.

Liu reiterated that the assessment and accountability system should be improved to expose violations.

At the meeting, Zhao Leji, head of the CPC Central Committee Organization Department, urged the attendees to carry forward the Party spirit and continue to improve their professional skills.
