An obsolete and energy-consuming steel line at Shanghai No. 5 Steel Corporation in Baoshan District was closed down yesterday after serving for 46 years. As one of the major sources of dust and smoke in the northern part of the city, closure of the assembly helps to reduce the discharge of exhaust gas by 246 million cubic meters and 280 thousand tons of solid waste every year, local environment officials said.
