To improve living
conditions for residents, the government of Changning District plans to set up a
communal facilities and service system next year in its region, the Shanghai
Night Post reported. Once completed, the Changning inhabitants will enjoy
shopping, cultural entertainment, medical treatments and any other services,
just 15-minute away from their homes.
Since such different residential
conditions are involved in Changning district, with some old-style houses
located in the middle-western area, the high-level Gubei residential district in
Hongqiao, and numerous new estates, the plan calls for the development of a
comprehensive service facilities system to satisfy all groups of
inhabitants.
At this stage, the "15-minute projuect" will be carefully
planned by Changning government in 2005 to combine all types of services in an
area of 3 to 4 square kilometers. The development is to contain a number of
food markets. In addition, an integrated cultural center, a sci-tech museum, a
library, a small-scale cinema and some internet cafes. Several gyms will also be
included. All these servics will be easily accessible to the residents with just
a 15 minutes walk from their homes.
