A lantern festival will be held in Changning District during the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on February 9. By the start of the festival, more than a thousand lanterns will be lit up in the Zhongshan Park. The centerpiece will be a 3.5-meter-tall lantern in the shape of a rooster as 2005 is the Year of Rooster according to Chinese custom. It takes five to six people to lift the giant lantern, which weighs more than 50 kilograms. It is also equipped with a sound system so it can crow like a real rooster.
