Zhabei District plans to inject about 5 billion yuan (US$604.1 million) to reconstruct the northern part of Shanghai Railway Station this year. The reconstruction covers an area of 390,000 square meters. A total of 8,200 bungalows and houses will be knocked down within three years with more green space added to the area. Along with the northern part of the rail station, the whole area is designed to be another transportation and recreational hub in the city.
