Search for Swede who lost wallet
6/1/2005 10:03

Shanghai Daily news

Huangpu District Public Sanitation Bureau is looking for a foreigner who lost his wallet in a public toilet on Zhongshan Road E1 on Friday.
A worker surnamed Yu found the wallet that afternoon.
At first, Yu thought the wallet had been discarded. But after he inspected it and found cash and credit cards, he remembered a foreigner had used the toilet 10 minutes earlier.
"We suppose the man is Swedish," said Wu Dongmin, manager of Shanghai Xinyi Environment & Sanitation Co Ltd, which belongs to the bureau.
The wallet contained a name card of an ambassador from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Sweden and credit cards marked "Stockholm Sweden" and "Handelsbanken." All the words on the credit cards were not English.
The bureau said it failed to identify the man since no one knew the language.
"One card in the wallet looks like a driving license," Wu pointed out.
The Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai said a man said he lost a bag last Friday and had asked for help yesterday morning.
"But now we can't confirm whether he is the man the bureau is looking for," said Vivian Zhao, an official of the consulate.
The district's Public Sanitation Bureau said it had given the wallet to police.
