Jiading District will host this year's Shanghai International Automobile
Cultural Festival from September 28 to October 18 in an attempt to further
promote the district's image as a center for automobile culture and
spirit.
The festival, co-sponsored by Jiading District government, the
Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission and Shanghai International Automobile
City, will feature a series of forums and exhibitions on the automobile
industry.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Auto Park in Shanghai
International Automobile City on September 28.
The Auto Park will make its
debut, receiving guests and experts from home and abroad for a series of
activities, including boating, water skiing and a fireworks show at its opening
ceremony.
The park, covering an area of 76.67 hectares, centers around auto
culture and will host auto parts exhibitions and auto activities in the future.
The park is expected to attract 2.5 million to 5 million tourists each
year.
The big festival will also become another carnival for local people,
especially auto fans, when it reaches its climax with the Formula One China
Grand Prix, which will be held on October 14 at the Shanghai International
Circuit.
The Shanghai International Circuit in the auto city, which
successfully held the country's first Formula One race last year, is gaining
popularity among a large number of people, who want to know more about car
history and culture and stay informed about the latest auto trends.
Jin
Jianzhong, director of the Jiading District government, said the district plans
to enhance its leading role as a comprehensive auto city, which combines the
automobile manufacturing industry, trade and modern services industry.
"We
aim to build up the Automobile Cultural Festival as a brand for the district and
further strengthen the functions of the auto city," said Jin.
Situated along
highways linked to downtown Shanghai, as well as Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces,
Shanghai International Automobile City is located in Jiading District in the
west of Shanghai, and is home to many auto factories.
After four years'
construction and development, the first phase of Shanghai International
Automobile City is completed and covers 68 square kilometers.
It is home to
companies like Shanghai Volkswagen and a used car market as well as tourist
attractions like Shanghai International Circuit, Automobile Park, all of which
contributed greatly to the district's economy.
Output of the different
automobile and auto parts manufacturing industries reached 55.12 billion yuan
(US$6.81 billion) last year, which accounts for more than 35 percent of the
district's total.
