Jinshan District is building an environmentally friendly industrial,
which will become the ninth such municipal-level zone in Shanghai.
The
Jinshan Industrial Zone will cover 58 square kilometers when all three phases of
construction are complete. The first phase is already under construction, but
officials said they don't know when the third phase will be completed.
The
zone, which will also house a residential community, was designed similar to the
Suzhou Industrial Zone in Jiangsu Province, which has lots of grass and trees
and international standard working and living conditions.
The zone will
focus on high-tech and new technologies, such as digital information, machinery
manufacturing, biological medicine, new materials, and research and development
technology.
A high quality commercial service group has been formed to
provide companies setting up in the zone with a full range of services,
including investment consultation, procedure handling, and project construction,
said Sun Yinliang, general manager of Shanghai Xin Jinshan Industrial Investment
and Development Co.
Sun said companies will be offered preferential policies
to attract them to the zone, but he wouldn't say what those policies will
include.
The zone has already attracted several domestic and foreign
companies, such as Baxter Healthcare (Shanghai) Co, Shanghai Dajulong New
Covering Material Co, Shanghai Sine Jinzhu Pharmaceutical Co and Shanghai Yalong
Industry Co.
The zone is located in the eastern portion of Jinshan District,
and is surrounded by the Tingfeng Expressway, Jiajin Expressway, Caolang Road
and Songwei Road S.
The zone was designed by Singapore Jurong Consultants
Pte.
It includes two centers and a community called The New Jinshan
International Community, and has a complete range of infrastructure, including
water systems, roads, power lines, drainage systems for rain and sewage, natural
gas, telecommunications, and wide band Internet connections.
The first phase
of the zone covers an area of 10 square kilometers and is built based on the
Chinese Taiji philosophy, with two parts divided by an "s" curve representing
yin and yang, the two opposing principles in nature.
It has richer land
resources but lower labor costs than other district, Sun boasted.
A shopping
center in the southern part of the industrial zone, which covers 17.84 square
kilometers, was recently opened to the public.
The zone is 48 kilometers from
downtown Shanghai, 42 kilometers from Hongqiao International Airport, 58
kilometers from Pudong International Airport, 60 kilometers from the Yangshan
Deep-water Port, and 33 kilometers from the Hangzhou Bay Bridge.
