East China Normal University's new Minhang Campus began formal operations yesterday. Located in suburban Minhang District, the new campus is adjacent to Jiao Tong University and covers 540,000 square meters. The first batch of 2,500 undergraduate students at the university's eight departments have already moved in. Altogether, 17,000 students will be taking classes there when the facility is finished in 2006.
