Shanghai Nanhui Sanzao City Industrial Zone in Nanhui District plans to speed up infrastructure construction and complete the relocation of residents living in the zone by the end of this year.
Li Jianming, chairman of Shanghai Sanzao Industrial Zone Development Co Ltd, said the zone will offer good services to companies. Construction of roads in the zone will be completed by the end of September, and companies will be linked to natural gas and a sewage drainage system by the end of next year.
"Compared with other industrial zones in the district, Sanzao City Industrial Zone is quite superior in its land cost which ranges from 3.2 million yuan (US$395,062) to 3.75 million yuan per hectare. It aims at cooperating with the nearby tourist economic zone and offering more jobs for residents both in Xuanqiao Town and Huinan Town," said Li.
The zone, together with the nearby district-level Nanhui Industrial Zone, has boosted the local economy.
Established in 1995, the Nanhui Sanzao City Industrial Zone covers an area of 2.5 square kilometers and is currently home to more than 40 companies. Companies in the zone cover a large range of industries such as modern textiles, machine manufacturing, sport facilities and tourism.
Output of the zone's different industries is expected to hit 1.8 billion yuan by the end of this year, up from 1 billion yuan a year earlier. And its investment is growing by 30 percent year on year.
The zone is home to famous enterprises including Shanghai Zhonglu Industrial Co Ltd. The enterprise, producing bowling products, has 50 percent of the domestic market share and is one of the three largest bowling suppliers in the world. Shanghai Forever Co Ltd produces bicycles and is currently looking to expand to high-tech products like LPG motorcycles.
The zone shut some unqualified enterprises and cut down its original area of 3.8 square kilometers to 2.5 square kilometers in response to the macro-control policies issued by the central government. However, it still welcomes more competitive companies to enhance the zone's overall development.
Chu Jianda, deputy director of the district's Xuanqiao Town, said relocation of more than 200 households will be solved within this year. More than 2,500 residents are provided with decent jobs within the zone.
The industrial zone enjoys a favorable geographic location: to the south lies the Shanghai Yangshan International Deepwater Port, and to the north lies Pudong International Airport.
Besides, the zone is surrounded by tourist attractions like the Shanghai Wild Animal Park in the south.
