World's largest container ship sets maiden voyage

The world's
largest container ship with a capacity of 9,600 twenty-foot equivalent units
(TEUs) of containers, left from the Yangshan Deep-water Port for its maiden
voyage at 3 pm yesterday. The South Korea-made ship, named "New Shanghai," is
336.7-meters-long and 45.6-meters-wide, with an area equivalent to more than
three standard soccer stadiums. It boasts a speed of 25.8 nautical miles per
hour, with a hull depth of 19 meters. The ship, owned by China Shipping
Container Lines Company Limited, will voyage to major ports in Asia and Europe.
