The local branch of the Shanghai Charity Fund reported that it has allocated more than 15 million yuan (US$1.91 million) so far this year to support Nanhui district's hospital patients, the elderly and the poor. In addition, 3,258 underprivileged students received funds in grants and food. Elderly residents were also given eye exam periodically with about 750 people getting free cataract operations.
