Shanghai Daily news

Since Nanhui District's population is aging quickly, the district government is paying more attention to the social environment of its elderly people. The district is planning to renovate seven schools for senior citizens and build 57 recreation rooms for the elderly by the end of this year.

The Shanghai Culture and Broadcasting Bureau recently granted subsidies to 12 luogushu artists in Nanhui District. Luogushu, a traditional form of storytelling, is a treasured part of the cultural heritage of the district. The art form is similar to modern rap-music but performed at a slower rhythm and accompanied with gongs, drums and vivid facial expressions.
