The World Link in Jinqiao offers foreigners quality and trust worthy care and facilities
Shanghai boasts many international hospitals and clinics, but few beat the World Link Medical and Dental Centers Jinqiao Clinic in Pudong New Area.
Part of the World Link's network of five integrated health centers, the clinic provides a professional healthcare environment in which foreigners can feel safe and comfortable. World Link has received accolades from local expats and has become a common feature at expat community health programs.
Although their rates are quite high compared with Chinese medical services, clinic Manager Jean Pan said this is because the Jinqiao branch of the World Link is committed to maintaining international healthcare standards.
The team of experienced physicians, dentists, nurses and other medical staff come from the best hospitals and universities overseas and locally, and they have both licenses in China and their home countries.
The clinic offers an on-site pharmacy, lab and X-ray services for client convenience. They also have direct billing arrangements with many well-known insurance partners.
With clients from all over the world, the World Link is able to provide many doctors who are familiar with different countries and customs.
Chief physician, Steve Misch, who considers Shanghai his second home, emphasized: "We offer clients a comprehensive range of healthcare services like they would receive in their home country, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, urgent walk-in medical care for small emergencies, immunizations and long term care, and we have access to a carefully selected panel of specialists, if needed. Specialties offered include obstetrics and gynecology care amongst others."
Michelle Lu-Ferguson, a Chinese-born American, worked in America for 20 years where she specialized in obstetrics and gynecology before coming to China.
She discussed the differences in healthcare in the two countries, saying that American doctors provide patients with a more respectful, caring, and most importantly, private form of care.
Since there are a growing number of expats coming into the city, the clinic hopes to become a much-needed world class healthcare service.
Community focus
In addition to providing quality health care, World Link Medical Centers are also committed to educating the community about health issues and working with colleagues in Shanghai's academic medical centers to conduct research and further medical advancements.
World Link is committed to supporting local charities like Shanghai Orphanage and the Shanghai Sunrise Foundation (which helps build libraries in underfunded schools and provides funds for the education of poor children) as well as expats in the city.
The clinic also launched a tsunami charity drive and assisted the Red Cross in its relief efforts for tsunami victims by offering cash collection points for those wishing to donate money.
Official Red Cross collection boxes were displayed at all of World Link's centers in Shanghai, and a total over 10,000 yuan (US$1,234.57) was collected.
World Link offers health education classes on a variety of topics throughout the year, including pre-natal and new parent classes, basic first aid, domestic helper first aid and CPR, traditional Chinese medicine, and stress management. World Link members receive a discounted price on health education classes. World Link provides medical care for major sporting events as well, such as the Tennis Master's Cup tournament.
Doctors in the clinic give frequent talks to community groups and local schools on health related topics.
They also have an aggressive flu vaccine program where they offer shots to large companies and schools on site.
