Dulwich College, a London-based independent school, will open its first
school in the city next week, according to school officials. Located in
Jinqiao, Pudong, the Dulwich College International School has a
7,000-square-meter campus and will offer education to international students
from grade 2 to grade 9 in the upcoming fall semester. But the school will
gear up to provide a complete education system - including early education,
primary and secondary school - in the next few years. School courses will be
based on the English National Curriculum, after which the upper school will
study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, whose holders will be
exempted from part of the entrance examination of some world-renowned
universities. The first batch of 500 students, mainly from the United States
and Britain, will start classes on August 26, the school said. "As Jinqiao
area was identified as a major gathering place for expatriates living in the
city, it is natural for us to bring Dulwich's nearly 400 years of educational
excellence to provide the best possible environment for students to achieve
success in all their educational pursuits here," said Fritz Libby, one of the
founding members of the DCIS Shanghai. DCIS Shanghai has a kindergarten in
the city, which offers the British government's Early Years Curriculum in a
facility just across the street from the school.
