1/9/2004 16:11

Chinese and Western dishes have been prepared for the grand feast at the 2004 Shanghai Tourism Festival, which runs from September 18 to October 6.
The festival includes dozens of events including pageants, shows, performances, exhibitions and specially designed one-day tours.
In Pudong New Area, the Fifth Shanghai International Music and Fireworks Festival will be held starting September 30. World-class fireworks artists from England, Switzerland and Argentina will dazzle crowds.
Thirty-six parachutists from both America and Norway will leap from the 420.5-meter Jin Mao Tower.
An Italian carnival called "Roman Holiday" will open at the location of last year's World Carnival. The Italian treat combines food, music, architecture and fashion shows.
While locals will enjoy the exotic elements of the festival, foreigners will also have a chance to experience treasures of Chinese culture.
Explore the history and secrets of Shanghai Nongtangs - alleyways connecting old-style shikumen houses - during specially designed one-day tours, or attend the Tang Dress shows, traditional Chinese tea ceremonies, folk art displays, puppet performances, guessing games.
Sports lovers can also check out the Shanghai Zhongkai International Rock Climbing Competition. Vying for the title will be 130 contestants from 30 countries.
"We want everyone to have fun and be pleasantly surprised," said Yang Jing, an official with the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission.
