A seven-kilometer section of the new Middle Ring Road will be open to traffic by year's end, the Shanghai Engineering Design Institute announced yesterday.
The link will connect Dabaishu area in Hongkou District to Tongchuan Road in Putuo District. Engineers said the new section will greatly improve the traffic situation in the city's northern areas. When completed by 2007, the 70-kilometer-long elevated road will match up with dozens of traffic arteries between the Inner Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road.
