Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Zone, which was established in November 1995,
celebrated its tenth anniversary this year.
Over the ten years, the zone has
witnessed great prosperity and impressive levels of development, with the zones
infrastructure meeting most international expectations.
The Qingpu Industrial
Zone is now attempting to attract more business. This is being done through the
district government, laying an emphasis on providing better services for
investors.
The industrial zone aims to build "an environmentally friendly,
model industrial zone." Qingpu Industrial Zone hopes to accomplish this by
concentrating similar industries within the park, creating industry chains which
can focus on balancing environmental concerns and economic development.
So
far, the attempts are seeing some progress.
A clear example of this progress
is the fact that all the production processes, ranging from design and
manufacturing to transportation and waste treatment, have been carried out
through environmentally friendly measures.
The zone covers a total area of
56.2 square kilometers and has attracted more than 447 foreign companies and 522
domestic enterprises, 12 of which are in the global top 500.
Total overseas
investment in the zone has reached US$4.01 billion, with a total registered
capital of more than US$2.242 billion. The industrial zone has also contracted
foreign investments adding to more than US$2.048 billion, while domestic
investment added up to 3.2 billion yuan.
Efficient and comprehensive services
within the zone have created distinctive investment advantages for the
industrial zone. These advantages have led to the attraction of companies such
as BASF China Co Ltd, NEC Electronics China, and Dupont China Co Ltd.
Other
modern manufacturing enterprises, such as Heidelberg Group specializing in the
printing industry, have also responded to the quick services and human oriented
nature of the zone.
Recently, a service platform was set up to offer more
advanced and comprehensive services for investors which has made the zone more
competitive.
With growing acceptance of the outside world, district officials
are sparing no efforts to make the industrial zone remain competitive in the
growing market.
Recently, a forum was held entitled "Innovation and
development in globalization," which was co-sponsored by the Qingpu District
government and Qingpu Industrial Zone. The forum focused on the further
development of the Qingpu Industrial Zone and attracted a number of experts to
speak on the subject.
