Donations for tsunami aid grow

Local donations for survivors of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami relief exceeded 2 million yuan (US$241,600) as of noon yesterday, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said.
Some 200 medical staff from Fudan University's Children's Hospital donated 29,775 yuan while the Jade Buddha Temple donated 400,000 yuan.
Around town, staff of the Shanghai Greenery Bureau and Shanghai Lawyer Association, as well as students from primary schools, waited in lines at the Shanghai Charity Foundation to donate money.
"It's really sad," said Jose Trinidad Garcia Cervantes, Mexico's deputy consul general who came to the foundation to donate 1,000 yuan. "I'll try asking more friends in the local foreign communities to join me."
Gu beiwei, a middle-aged women from Yangpu District, donated 10,000 yuan in the name of her family.
"There's no way for the dead to regain their lives, but those who are alive are still hopeful," she said. "We wish that all the survivors, especially the injured and children who lost their parents, can go through the current hardship and rebuild their homes. Plagues please stay away from all tragedy sufferers."
Reggie shiu, a senior vice president for Accor Asia, was still missing in the tidal waves.
The chinese-American traveled with his family from Shanghai to Thailand for the Christmas holiday. Along with his wife and two teenage boys, they have not been heard from. The family's youngest daughter is safe.
Accor officials said that they had not lost hopes and would keep on looking.
